The
Founder - L.D. Agee
L.D. loved sports, the teams, helping
young people achieve and the hard work necessary for success. His
dedication and hard work have been evident from the beginning and
many say that L.D. has been the heart, soul and driving force of
youth teams in and around Murfreesboro.
L.
D. AGEE NOW AND THEN L.D.
remembers the hard work. For example, at the start of the Jr.
Pro Football program people lined up outside his store to get their
equipment. He kept the store open and worked until 10:30PM
making sure those kids could have what they needed to be part of the
teams. The store only closed when they ran out of supplies.
That’s when he got on the phone and located more equipment. L.D.
managed to sleep between midnight and 2am and then he got up and
drove to Knoxville to pick up the equipment needed for the rest of
the kids. He loaded his vehicle and drove back to open the store at
10am and work another full day.
Back then bats were $3.95 each versus the $350 today and the only
shoes available were the Converse for $6.95.
Today Agee's proudly serves a second generation of customers as some
of the early customers are now parents bringing their kids in for
supplies.
Everyone lost a great person when L, D. passed away. He was
truly a pillar of our community. He always was ready to help schools
and teams as well as parents and children. He will be truly missed
by us all. We will be thinking of his family and loved ones in this
time of sorrow.
"He established a long-standing, honest tradition there," he said.
"He always gave us deals that could fit our meager budgets back
then. It was quality equipment at a very fair price, and it's just
the place to go for Rutherford County coaches."

This tradition is exactly what the staff at Agee's wants to carry
forward.
"We want people to realize that we're staying here, and we're
committed to our customers and to the community," Sudberry said. "We
are going run this store exactly as he wanted us to — with a big
heart and a lot of love."
